HYPING TO FIT IN?

I recall a time during childhood when someone mentioned that they had an air conditioner in their garden (open space). Recalling this story made me laugh now that I am older and wondering why someone would cook up such a story, especially when someone else refuted the person’s claim. As I grew older, I have experienced different times when people try to hype themselves to fit into their circle of friends. Some will brag about who they are not to fit into a false standard they set for themselves. Some will lie about their background e.g., mention that they traveled abroad for summer when they have never been to the airport.

Dear reader, are there times you find yourself bragging about an achievement that you do not have so that people will not look down on you. Are you always preoccupied with portraying yourself in an exalted image when deep within, you know that it is all deception? It is good to long and aspire for great things but do not live a fake life to impress people. This boils down to one’s perception of oneself. The bible says that a man is not made up of the abundance of the things that he possesses. Your self-worth is not about the outward things. You do not need to hype your worth to feel accepted by men. If you find yourself in a circle where you are under pressure to be who you are not, that relationship may not be for you, or you might even be the one putting yourself under pressure. Oh, yea it is the latest style/clothing/car in vogue, but can you afford it? Even if you can afford it, do you really need it? What’s your motive for striving to buy it by all means? To feel accepted or fit in? Real people would appreciate you for who you are. If you cannot see the value you carry by yourself, who will? Do not always believe that you need to do things to prove your worth to people. Some borrow the things they do not have to impress people that do not care. Your self-worth is not about the deceptive image you portray. You need to see your value from within.
